Appaloosa Horse Club Non-Pro Awards

Awards and Recognition for the Non-Pro

Non-Pro members are eligible to earn and receive many awards for their participation in the Non-Pro program. The Non-Pro award system is designed to award Non-Pros who have proven their superiority in the fields of competition in ApHC Non-Pro events. To be eligible, all Non-Pros must be current members in good standing with the ApHC and must hold a current Non-Pro card.

What are the awards determined by?

Points will be counted from approved Non-Pro classes at all ApHC approved shows. Points will be counted according to the current national point system. For Non-Pro exhibitor awards, points will be maintained for the individual exhibitor. The exhibitor may show any number of horses. For Non-Pro horse awards, points will be kept on each horse used in the Non-Pro program.

What awards can be earned by the Non-Pro exhibitor?

What awards can be earned by the Non-Pro exhibitor?

All non-pro points will count toward the following non-pro horse awards (excluding showmanship, equitation, and novice classes). Only points from 1990, when the non-pro awards program developed, will be used to calculate the following non-pro horse awards. Only one award is available regardless of non-pro, 35 & over and masters non-pro divisions. Points carry over from one division to another.

Non-Pro Medal:

A Non-Pro medal will be awarded to all winners in ApHC-approved nationally pointed Non-Pro classes at both the World Championship Appaloosa Horse Show and the National Appaloosa Horse Show, provided that at least three horses are shown in the class. Ties for year-end high point awards will not be broken.
Medals are to be awarded as follows:

Non-Pro Sportsmanship Awards

Each year at the National and World Championship Appaloosa Horse Shows, a Non-Pro earns the Non-Pro Sportsmanship Award for their exemplary conduct. Non-Pro Sportsmanship Award winners exemplify the qualities of good sportsmanship, friendliness, a positive attitude, and the willingness to help others. Individuals who earn this award have respect for their fellow competitors, observe the rules and regulations as set forth by Show Management, and lead as examples in fairness. The awarded individual displays graciousness in both winning and losing, and is a role model for all.

How are the winners selected?.......

A selected group of individuals, who are present at each show, are nominated to be a member of the selection committee. These members remain anonymous and keep their eyes open throughout the shows for individuals who exemplify good sportsmanship. At the end of each show, votes are collected from committee members and an individual is named Non-Pro Sportsman of that show.

Do you accept nominations?.......

The Non-Pro Sportsmanship Award selection committee does accept nominations. In the Show office at both the Nationals and World Championship shows, a ballot box is displayed on a table where people may submit nominations. The nomination should include the recommended individuals name, as well as a short explanation why they are deserving. The selection committee takes these comments into consideration and can even be used as a tiebreaker when determining the next sportsmanship award.
